La corteza de la raíz de la Tabernanthe Iboga, pequeño arbusto florido pariente lejano del café, en África y Sudamérica, contienen la ibogaína, un enteógeno. La raíz es usada allí por las etnias fang, mitsogo y otras, en Gabón, Camerún y Guinea Ecuatorial, en el culto mbuiti o bwiti «de los antepasados» de aparente origen pigmeo. La Eboka es un alucinógeno sagrado o sacramento, alrededor del que se desarrolla el culto.
